once again, i am a pathetic failure at blogging. i want to blog. there are people out there who also want me to blog. i just have no follow-through. sigh. well, here are some morsels from what has been happening in the last two months:
november was spent getting to know our new baby boy, running to the doctor, er, various hospitals, trying to figure out why little d couldn't poop and why he was not gaining weight. thanksgiving included helping out the school by making a plethora of apple pies for their program - only to discover the pie pans that were purchased were covered in stainless steel polish. yum! yum! we had a deliciously quiet dinner at home that we cooked together - yes, i actually cooked something (deviled eggs and a pumpkin bake)!
in december, d was diagnosed with hirschsprung's disease. this meant a ten-day stay in the hospital for us and an eight hour surgery for him. the surgery went well and he is healing very quickly. christmas was a little better this year than last year. we put up a little plastic tree and some lights, i made d his first stocking and we actually had presents to open under the tree, thanks to my mom and grandma. we got the wonderful gift of an oven from another family on campus who ordered a new one from the states (western style stovetop ovens do not inhabit this island - the taiwanese oven is a large toaster oven)! christmas eve, we had some of our taiwanese friends over for dinner. christmas morning, i baked christmas cookies - russian tea cakes and hershey kiss drops - d "opened" presents, and we had christmas dinner and a gift exchange with some of the other families on campus. we ended this month by taking the high speed rail up to taipei to stay with one of my high school friends for a few days.
happy new year! resolutions: be an awesome mom; blog at least once a week; lose the rest of my pregnancy weight (i lost 25 lbs during the first two weeks after birth but have lost nothing more since); seek and acquire a new job in the states; study chinese more intensively.

Thanks for the update, Holly! Declan is adorable, and I'm glad to hear that he's doing better.
