The Twilight Saga

A few weeks ago, I finished reading Breaking Dawn, the last book in the Twilight series.  I had read the first book and wasn't too interested in reading the rest of them.  However, the series has become so popular in the U.S. and Taiwan that I thought I should struggle through them, just in case they get better as the series progresses.

Well, I am sorry to say, I was disappointed.  I just do not see what makes these books popular - or what makes those who normally have excellent taste in books suggest the series for others to read.  I understand the books were written for teenagers to enjoy - not adults - but I have read a large amount of books aimed at teenagers lately and many of them are excellent reads.  I think the author, Stephenie Meyer, is a mediocre writer with an unsteady grasp of character development.

The main character, Bella, is an irritatingly stereotypical female (with one exception - she doesn't like dressing up).  Edward and Jacob are annoyingly chauvinistic.  Bella and her mom are extremely close for 16 years, and then they hardly make contact with each other?  Why does everyone all of a sudden have nicknames in the last book?  I could go on...

Am I the only person on Earth who does NOT love these books?  Why are they so beloved???

This is my take on why they're so beloved. =)
